International Cooperation on Cosmetics Regulation (ICCR)
The CTFA represents South Africa on an annual basis at the International Cooperation on Cosmetics Regulation (ICCR) Forum. The ICCR is a voluntary international group of cosmetics regulatory authorities from Brazil, Canada, the European Union, Japan, and the United State. This group of regulatory authorities meets on an annual basis to discuss common issues on cosmetic safety and regulation, and to enter into a constructive dialogue with their relevant cosmetics industry trade associations. As stated in the Terms of Reference, the purpose of this multilateral framework is to maintain the highest level of global consumer protection, while minimizing barriers to international trade.
Standards
International Standards Organisation (ISO)
South Africa and the CTFA play an active role at the International Standards Organisation (ISO) in order to further remove barriers to trade. SABS is a member body of the International Organisation for Standardization and participates actively in a number of its committees.
The ISO Technical Committee consists of members from over 60 countries around the globe all striving to find “common” standards. Continued work in this area is key for South Africa because by participating at ISO we can ensure that the ISO Standards reflect the South African perspective. Harmonised international standards also reduce barriers to trade and adopting these international standards helps to make locally compliant companies more export ready.
