Department of Forestry Fisheries and the Environment
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) in South Africa is responsible for managing, protecting, and conserving the country’s environment and natural resources.
Biodiversity (biological diversity) is the total variety of living organisms in all ecosystems on Earth, the genetic differences between them, and the communities and ecosystems in which they occur. It is the “natural wealth” of the Earth, which supplies all our food and much of our shelter and raw materials.
Environmental management is an increasingly important theme in the operations of companies, as sustainability of both business and the environment is critical. In South Africa, environmental management is governed nationally by the National Environmental Management Act whereunder there is the waste; biodiversity; climate change; air quality; protected areas; and integrated coastal specific environmental management acts that set out the legislative requirements in these dedicated areas.
