CTFA Standards - SANS 98:2012 – Ingredient Labelling of Cosmetic Products
SANS 98:2012 Edition 1.1 1 Introduction The purpose of ingredient labelling is to ensure transparency to the consumer, to give adequate information about the product, and to avoid purchase of a product that contains an ingredient that the consumer does not wish to use. To achieve transparency, it is essential to ensure uniformity throughout the world in the names used for the ingredients in cosmetic products. This will help the consumer to identify the same ingredient in products manufactured in different countries. It is recognized that South Africa needs to adopt legislation pertaining to the full ingredient listing of cosmetic products, not only to bring the industry in line with global trends, but also to further the responsible attitude being taken towards the effective control of the South African cosmetic industry through self-regulation. © SABS © SABS.
