SANS 1557:2019 Edition 4 49 D.4 P7 Low SPF reference sunscreen formulation (100 g) D.4.1 Ingredients for phase 1 Lanolin 5,0 g Homosalate 8,0 g Petrolatum 2,50 g Stearic acid 4,0 g Propylparaben 0,05 g D.4.2 Ingredients for phase 2 Methylparaben 0,1 g Disodium EDTA 0,05 g Propylene glycol 5,0 g Triethanolamine 1,0 g Water (purified) 74,3 g D.4.3 Preparation D.4.3.1 Heat phase 1 ingredients (see D.4.1) at a temperature between 77 °C and 82 °C, with constant stirring, until soluble. D.4.3.2 Heat phase 2 ingredients (see D.4.2) at a temperature between 77 °C and 82 °C, with constant stirring, until soluble. D.4.3.3 Add the phase 1 mixture (see D.4.3.1) slowly to the phase 2 mixture (see D.4.3.2) while stirring. D.4.3.4 Continue stirring until the emulsion formed is cooled to a temperature between 15 °C and 30 °C. D.4.3.5 Add sufficient water to obtain 100 g of the reference sunscreen formulation. D.4.4 Physicochemical data pH: 8,0 ± 0,5 Viscosity (20 °C): 250 mPa·s to 400 mPa·s (Rheomat RM 180-Mobile 3, 200 r/min; time of assessment: 10 min) Density (20 °C): 0,970 g/cm 3 ± 0,05 g/cm 3 D.4.5 Storage The P7 reference sunscreen formulation shall be stored at 20 °C for 12 months, in a container that is protected from light. © SABS © SABS.
